Live Kind Choose Happiness Unleash Learning
What we have been up to…
Math: Multiplication of decimals has started. We will continue practice into next week as well. There will be a quiz on Tuesday, Nov. 19. I will be working with students who need extra practice on Monday, Nov. 18 during the first part of their recess. Any extra math fact practice or additional problems at home would be great.
Reading: “Why character?” We are discovering character traits of characters in books. We learned why we want to focus on the characters in books. We discussed how it helps us understand the plot of the book, the characters’ role in the book, the motivations of the character, but also helps us consider the behaviors of the people around us and helps us relate to them more. Characters often change throughout a book, and we can learn from them.
We have chosen and received our new chapter books that we will be reading and discussing in class and in small groups. The students will be focusing on character throughout the book. They will need to read 1/3 of the book by next Friday.
We are enjoying our read aloud, Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library. The characters in this book are quite vividly described for us.
Science: We began to compare and contrast the characteristics of Earth with other planets in our solar system. By looking at similarities and differences between planets, we can better understand the need to appreciate and take care of our Earth.
Social Studies: We watched two videos about Veteran’s Day and discussed how these people have impacted our lives. Many shared veterans they know or knew. The rest of the week, we focused on characteristics of timelines and had a personal timeline due today. Thank you for any help locating dates, etc.
Word Study: It is normal routine for us to have a pretest on Monday and words should come home that day. We continue to focus on word features and challenges appropriate for us. We did an activity that combined us practicing our words as well as money values. This was good review for both skills. The kids did a nice job lining up their decimals when adding their values.
Parent activity will be assigned on Monday for homework (choose 1) and S.O.S. (choose 1) on Tuesday evening. Tests will be on Fridays. Thanks for any support with these skills.

Friday, Nov. 15 Jump Rope for Heart took place today during special's time. Our school goal was $3000! Forms were sent home earlier.
